Beginner Students

At the moment Manju's greatest pleasure is to introduce a beginner / someone whose yoga practice has previously been incomplete, to a complete and well balanced practice that includes, breath practices, yoga poses, relaxation and visualisation techniques, meditation and other yogic practices. He explains that the happiness and fulfilment this brings them makes his commitment to teach stronger. All his classes are suitable for beginners.

Advanced Students

Manju's qualifications do allow him to teach other yoga teachers and even train others to become teachers and he is often asked why he does not want to do this. His simple explanation is that it is not the path that he wants to follow at the moment. Having lived in India for 40 years and having known of great yoga masters he says that he knows that he is not ready for this responsibility and there are many deeper aspects of yoga that he is only beginning to understand himself. If you are teaching yourself or think of yourself as an advanced student, you should consider looking for a teacher who is offering advanced classes.

Pregnant Students

Whilst Manju is happy to teach existing students if they become pregnant. If you know you are pregnant and you are looking to start a yoga class, we recommend that you find a prenatal yoga class.

Class Tips

What to bring

  • Yourself
  • A yoga mat, blanket, water bottle and a yoga block if you use one.
  • Before attending your first class you must sign a form confirming that you have no illness or injuries that prevents you from practising yoga. You can download it here and bring it with you to class or if you do not have a printer please ask me for a copy.

What to remember

Classes are very informal and their main aim is to relax your body and mind but there are a few things to remember:

  • Bring a mat and if you wish a small throw or blanket to cover yourself during the 15mins relaxation at the end of class and whatever other props you like to use.
  • Wear lose and comfortable clothing, yoga asanas (poses) are practised in barefoot.
  • Drink plenty of water during the day before class and also after class.
  • Try not to eat for at least 2 -3 hours before class (if you must, you can have a very light snack one hour before class or a warm drink up to half an hour before class).
  • Switch off your mobile phone before entering class.
  • Don’t force yourself into any pose. Everyone’s body is different, we are all unique. Listen to your body. Yoga is not a competition. If you are in pain, something is wrong. Yoga is a way of life that engages our whole being not just our physical body.
  • Keep an open mind and enjoy the class.
